Google Performance Summit 2016

What a great week! Gaëtan Godart just spent a couple of days in San Francisco to attend the annual Google Performance Summit.

It was such a great opportunity to discuss the future of Search, Analytics & Programmatic with the Google Experts & Product Managers.

Only 2 Belgian representatives were invited, we are so proud to have been part of them. Thanks again Google Belgium for this exclusive invitation.

During his stay, Gaëtan had the opportunity to discover the whole roadmap regarding the next product evolutions. We’re glad to recap some of the important features here.

Feel free to contact us for any question or additional information!

  • New-adwords-interfaceFirst of all, Google presented the new AdWords interface that will be progressively rolled out over the next 12-18 months. This interface has been built to get an easier access to actionable insights and has been built for a “mobile-first” world.

  • Meanwhile, “Device Bidding” will be available in the new AdWords interface and, YES, that means specific bids for tablets are back! Marketers will have more control and flexibility to optimize bids on specific devices. This can be seen as a step back from Google regarding the « Enhanced Campaigns » and we – at blue2purple – are really happy with that decision.

  • Ad text will now include more Copy. Google will soon launch Expanded Text Ads in AdWords. For us, it is a logical evolution after removing ads from the right side!

Technical specifications: Headline: 30 Characters, 80 Characters for the description lines. According to Beta First results, the CTR is 20% higher on those ads.

  • Google rolls out Native Ads for mobile devices. The AdWords interface will automatically build and adapt display ads for mobile websites in the GDN or In-App. Choose your visual, write your text and you’re done!

  • Remarketing in AdWords – historically only broadcasted via the GDN – will now go through Cross-Exchange inventory! Which is already possible using the DoubleClick products but this evolution opens up new perspectives for the AdWords users.

  • To help advertisers reach consumers searching for physical business locations Google introduced 2 new kinds of ads across Google.com and Google Maps (Promoted Pins). Advertisers using location extensions will be able to prominently showcase their business locations when consumers search for things like “shoe store” or “car repair near me.”

  • In relation to the previous topic, Google is expanding its store visit tracking to a broader range of advertisers and small businesses. Note, that not all small businesses are eligible because of the minimum amount of data needed. Feel free to contact us to verify if your business is eligible.

Some Insights we’ve heard:

  •  1/3 of mobile search queries are location related
  • Local searches are growing 50% faster than mobile searches overall
  • Without confirming the exact number, Google says that it records more than 2,000,000,000,000 (2 trillion) Searches per year!
  • 75% of people who search on their smartphone for something nearby visit a business within a day, and more than 25% of those searches results in a purchase
  • 30% of all online shopping purchases now happen on mobile phones
  • “Near me” searches on Google increased by 34% since 2011

We hope you enjoyed this recap. For more info, feel free to watch the event video
